``Utawarerumono: The Mask of False'' is the second work in the ``Utawarerumono'' series, following ``Utawarerumono: Lullaby for the Disappearing'' released in 2006.
The story is set in the same world as the previous work, but new characters, including the hero and heroine, develop a new story.
The character designs are handled by Kanroki, who worked on the character design and original drawings for the previous game, and Misato Mitsumi, who has a track record of working on the ``ToHeart2'' and ``Dungeon Travelers'' series.
The game system is such that the story progresses through the ``adventure part,'' and if a battle occurs, the game switches to the ``simulation RPG'' part.
